Angel S

Angel S my sister came to take Colin to a basketball game. Thank you S!!
I'm sure he's having a great time.
I've cleaned most of the morning but I'm going to take a hour to do nothing but rest & watch my craft shows. I'll do light cooking. G is nauseous, I convinced him to take the nausea medicine. No need in being nauseous if the medicine will help.

Chemo Friday

I thought he would have a 3 week break from chemo, but no. We spent most of the day Friday at chemo.
G was having side affects immediately so we didn't get to have lunch together or go see a movie;
as we had planned. I would like for us to go for chemo once & they not waste time looking for a double pump that works. Come on with the cost of chemo that place should be full of working equipment! OK vent over.

G has decided it's too difficult to work full time on chemo so he will work the one week a month that he has a break from chemo. It will be an economical set back but the most important thing is for him to get healthier.

Mom kept Colin while we were at chemo. Chemo took a few extra hours this time. My mom has had her hands full w/ my 99 yr old great great aunt. My aunt K, Colin's great aunt picked him up from my parents & took him to Chuck E Cheese to give mom a break. Colin had a fabulous time; he always does when he spends time w/ Aunt K. Thank you K you are an angel.

This Christmas

We had a great Christmas. My friends & family were extremely generous with gifts for us & Colin. Thank you friends & family. Especially friend P, she mailed a big box of things to Colin.
Hubby bought me the kitchen aid & attachments I've wanted for years. It's red so I'll exchange it; I didn't specified the color. I got other great gifts & appreciate them all.
I didn't take as many photos this year during the gift exchange. We took a lot of photos Christmas day. This is the first Christmas in yrs that my uncle K had joined us. The flash bulbs were flying.
Mom & others cooked a fabulous feast. I ate most of my favorite food & dessert.
I even had mom's pecan pie & cheesecake factory cheesecake my 2 all time favorites.
I'm backdating this entry. I haven't been online for days. I've been in a funk.

Whoo hoo

After today G gets a break from chemo for 3 weeks. I'm off work today & next week. Whoo hoo!
I've rested today, well when Colin would allow me to rest.
I need to finish wrapping gifts. I'm using my cutters to cut cute gift boxes & tags.

Thank you

I saw power trucks on the highway this morning. They were from different states & looked like they were headed home. Thank you for coming to help my town.
I know it's day 12 for some still without power; hopefully our local crews will be able to restore them soon. I know many had damage to the boxes to their home & must get an electrician to repair it before power can be restored.
I saw on the news 56th St N was hard hit & still w/out power. There were power poles & trees all over. Hopefully they have power today.

Colin's school didn't have power Monday & we received a call Sunday night. I forgot to check the answer machine & didn't know they had school at a different location. Oops. He will go to school today & I don't think they have school tomorrow because of Christmas break.

He's really missing his little friends & wanted to play w/ his cousin. I hope he enjoys today; he won't see his friends again for weeks.

G is still really tired but doing OK at work. He just doesn't have much energy. Tomorrow he will get a break from the chemo medicine that is affecting him the worst. We are looking forward to the break.

I also wanted to say Thank you for the lovely & encouraging comments you guys leave on this blog. Thank you so much it means more than you know.

Grocery shopping

I don't like to grocery shop. Our new journey of eating better (reading labels) make grocery shopping take even longer. I try to do it when I don't have Colin, it goes faster & I buy less crap.
I got a great tip from hungry girl http://mygrocerydeals.com/ you type in your zip code & it shows great deals in your area. This is good for me because I don't get a sales papers from wild oats/whole foods that come in the mail. I love that you can check out the nutritional value (read the label) online. If you are allergic to an item; put it in your profile, the item will show up in red so you know to avoid it. You can click on the item to add it to a shopping list. Whoo hoo!

Back to work

G went back to work for the first time in months. He overdid it. He's very tired. I hope it goes better for him today.

Colin's gymnastics class was no show so the female gynmastics instructor & the male hip hop/break dance teacher taught him some moves. He has a great time until he started to overdo it & his asthma flared up.
When he spun on his head his teacher looked at me in disbelief. I've seen him do it too many times & it scares me every time. His teacher said you have no idea how hard it is to do that move.
They marvelled at his strength. Of course he showed off & did his one hand push ups & the push ups w/ the clap in between. He is quite proud that he can do them.
I'll enroll him in the beginning break dance class in January.

We have power!

Whoo hoo our power was restored last night at 4:30. I was leaving work & hubby called me screaming something; I figured out later it was WE HAVE LIGHTS! I rushed home & cleaned out the fridge & deep freeze. Being without power for so many days is very expensive.

I called my co-worker Doug, he offered to lend us his generator & told him we had power. Doug also came over & looked at the lemon generator we had bought & couldn't get to work. He smelled gas in the oil line; he think some seals were leaking. Thank you Doug PH!

We don't have cable. I'm glad I never switched to the bundle or we would be without phone & internet until who knows when.
We do have a DVR so little precious is watching DVR shows over & over.
We are watching movies on the computer, laptop & portable DVD player.
Hubby is watching his taped shows, he still VCR's shows.
I'm busy doing laundry & cleaning. I had to move all the furniture back.
We had rearranged to put the larges pieces in front of the fireplace.
Our home smells like a huge fireplace; but we have electricity!!

When I turned the corner not to far from our home I stopped & yelled a big Thank you to the guys working. I really wanted to give them a hug but didn't want to distract them from working. Some people are still waiting for power.

We got snow last night & it is cold. The streets aren't too bad.

Day 5 of no power

Baby it's cold outside. The generator was a lemon. G & daddy worked on it all day outside in the cold; that was not good for hubby at all. He wanted to get heat for his family. His heart makes my heart smile. A brand new generator & it never worked. HD was out when we returned it. So we still have no heat at our home. We could only have the hotel for 1 night. The price gouging is bad enough but to limit people to one night. Is that legal??
The bright side is there is power across the street from our home; so it's coming it's coming. My parents got power last night so we stayed there. My sister K got power late Wednesday night so last night she took the kids last night. I had the best night sleep in weeks.
Not having to wake up to add wood to the fireplace or make sure little one has covers. He loves to kick the covers off all night long until he gets really cold then he covers up.

I got a call from Marilyn they have power. She invited us over; she's such a sweetie. Thank you Marilyn & Susan (my co-worker) invited us over too.

We did a major happy dance when the power came on at my parents. Colin turned cartwheels. My 99 yr old great aunt never moved or said a word. When I asked her wasn't she happy she sd yeah in a very dull tone. It was funny. I ran outside to thank the workers; I didn't see any but I know someone heard me. I didn't yell too loud because my parents neighbors across the street still don't have power. Kinda of like in my neighborhood & my sister S. We don't have power but they do across the street.

I do want to send a shout out to all of the people working 18 hours days in the freezing cold to restore power. Thank you! 143,300 still without power but they are working hard to restore as much as they can as fast as possible.

I can't understand why the elderly assisted living is not on the priority list; they are still without power too. Hmmmm something not right about that priority list. Peoples economical level should not indicate their value. All people are valuable.

It's supposed to snow tonight. I like snow better than ice. I like sunshine better than snow. :)

Day 4

Day 4 of no power. We found a hotel after trying a dozen. We were able to stay the 1 night because of a cancellation. It was so great to have hot water, G took a 30+ min shower. I didn't take that long. :) Colin hogged the TV. The room was very nice; it had a king bed & a pull out double sofa bed. We could only have it for 1 night. 157,000 still without power in our town.
We bought a generator this morning for $1000.00.
G was sick most of the day & really sick at 3 am. He never complains.
School is out the rest of the week.

ice storm

THIS ICE STORM STINKS! I'm at work today just to be warm & have light. I left my son & hubby in front of the fireplace they will go to my parents & spend the day. My parents have no power but a home full of people & a roaring fireplace.
None of us have power. I'm tired of this unplanned camping. My hubby is having side affects from the chemo & has to deal with being cold & in the dark. We did venture out for food & spent
a couple of hours in the mall yesterday.
Reading books & doing crafts with a 6 yr old by candle light is only fun for the first hour. Day 3 with no power. I want to whine & complain. Thank goodness we have a fireplace & had just bought 1/2 rick of wood. We are going through the wood pretty fast. Oh I don't want to think about all of the food we lost in the deep freezer.
We rearranged our furniture & are sleeping on the sofas in front of the fireplace. I'm getting very little sleep because the little one sleeps all over the place. If we can't find a hotel room tonight I'm going to drag out a mattress to sleep on.
Heating water up in the fireplace to sponge off was especially fun. Oh yeah I just talked to the power company; our power will not be on until Dec 18. They will teach us not to live in the wealthiest area of town. They lost power last & got it back on first. UGH!!!!! Over 200,000 homes lost their power. At this time 180,000 are still without power.
It could always be worse. A guy that works in our company grille, his home burned down & they lost everything. We do still have water; it's cold but we have water. This is a glimpse of what it was like during the pioneer days.
I've seen lots of children & even a dog at work today.

side effect

G had more side effects today. It was a tough day. I had to ask 3 times before he told me how bad he felt. I could tell by his actions.

Saturday, December 8, 2007

1st treatment

We spent most of Friday getting the first the chemo treatment. The cost blew me a way $13,000 per treatment.
G has a few side affects from the chemo but he has a great attitude.

Thursday, December 6, 2007

scared

It's official we are educated about chemo. We are also more scared than ever. The side affects are horrendous & so numerous. I really pray things go well.
I grateful it's not worse. Things can always be worse. I feel like I'm holding my breath & have my fingers crossed. Deep down I know everything will be OK. Some days it's deeper down than other days.

chemo meeting

Hubby is going to the chemo meeting alone. I feel a little bad. Mom was going to go but misunderstood. He will be fine. Mom just calls after she called G. She feels bad. I told her I did too but let it go.
G took C to school today. This is a huge help. I hate to talk about me but I'm worn out.
It's hard to work full-time & take care of everyone.

I watched the Oprah show on Eat Pray Love. I'm going to take some time for me & read the book. I'm tired of being sick & tired. I'm ready for crisis mode to be over.

C enjoyed his birthday yesterday. His class was thrilled that I brought mini cupcakes.
The parents like that they were mini cupcakes.

We went to J's piano recital last night. She's really good. Colin clapped hard for J but was
challenged during most of the recital. We arrived 20 min early. We were giving the wrong start time. I like for things to start on time & hate sitting & waiting around. Colin finds it hard to sit still too. During the second song by one of the girls playing he clasped his ears because it was loud then he whisper & asked me if I had any ear plugs. By the 3rd song he had adjusted to the volume. He fidgeted during most of the recital but he was quiet.

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Happy Birthday

Today is little precious birthday. I'll take mini cupcakes to school. We had a party Sunday.
I think fun was had by all. I treated the children that attended the party to Incredible Pizza.
It would have been easier & cheaper to have the party at IP but I don't care that much for the food.

Our visit with oncologist went ok yesterday. There is a chemo class tomorrow & G starts chemo Friday. My company party is Friday night. We will miss it.

circle journal

Here are some LO's for a circle journal.
I stamped the paper w/ chalk inks. I used sticker, my craftrobo to cut the title & banana.

Genius

Hubby still has not been cleared to drive. As a result we get a lot of family time in the car. Yesterday C told us Mr B (his teacher) said he was a genius.
I sd was he smiling when he said it he said no. G turned to look at Colin when he announced he was a genius then looked at me. We just smiled at each other. Not wanted C to know we wanted to laugh. G told me that C had this matter of fact look on his face like what Mr B said was gospel.
Later last night C figured out something that I thought was impressive. I sd Wow Colin that's really pretty smart. He looked at me & said I'm a genius.
I didn't correct him, I'll gently let the air out of his balloon another day.
I don't see any real harm of him thinking he's a genious for a day or 2.

Squeamish

OK I admit it, I'm squeamish! Hubby's bandage needed to be changed after the port surgery.
I took one look at that wound & thought oh no. It was a clear bandage & sterile strips so I could see everything. I called the Dr. Wednesday he said it didn't need to be changed until Thursday afternoon. I breathed a sign of relief.

Thursday after a fabulous meal by mom & my sisters, I just contributed financially;
I tried to sweet talk mom into changing DH bandage. My sis & BIL kept interrupting, giving advice about sterile strips & where I could buy them on Thanksgiving day. I politely ignored them & asked mom to look at the wound. I told her there was no way I could remove the bandage & the sterile strips not come off too. I asked her would she change it.
She worked in a hospital for over 10 yrs. She assisted with hearth caths. She's not squeamish at all. She came over Friday & changed the dressing. She kept trying to show me the old dressing & what to look for to make sure it was not infected. I kept trying to look away. I couldn't believe she couldn't see to look at that was making me ill.
Hubby teased me about the marriage vows & not caring for his wound.
I said I'm making sure your wound is taking care of; me passed out on the floor would not do you, me or your wound any good. Thank goodness for my mother. She runs to my resuce often. I wonder who's going to run to Colin's resue if it squeamishness involved??
Thank goodness I have other strengths & talents.

think

I came across this quote today & I love it.

'It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts... it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves.' --- Robert Hutchins

I know at times I like to brag on my son. It's not as often as I like because he is not always the model student.
I can't stand when parents say things like little Johnny was reading when he was 3 yrs old or He could count to 100 when he was 2 yrs old.
The important thing is for little Johnny to be a positive contributor to this world, when he's all grown up.

A co-worker & I were discussing schools & what children learn. He may move soon because he doesn't want his daughter to go to the assigned public school. This is such a shame all schools should be good.

Happy day before Thanksgiving

I cancelled hosting Thanksgiving. We were supposed to host.
When we got the blow that the cancer was in the lymph nodes,
I sent my family an email that I would not host Thanksgiving.
Mom is hosting & most of us are taking a dish. It will be a small
crowd this year.
I'm very thankful that the cancer was not worst.

I wished I would have got the Christmas decorations out of the attic yesterday.
It was 80º, today the high will be 47º. Brrrr

Hubby is watching our son. They seemed to be ok when I called to check.
I'm working a few more hours & I'm heading home.

Side note of just gibberish
What is up with the new fashion of false eyelashes as everyday wear?!
Does a woman not have enough to do??? Guess who will not
be wearing false eyelashes just because they are in fashion???!!!

stage 3

I got this information from http://www.cancure.org/colon_cancer.htm
it explains the different stages. G is stage 3

Stage 0 or carcinoma in situ is very early cancer - found only in the innermost lining of the colon.Stage I - The cancer has spread beyond the innermost lining of the colon to the second and third layers and involves the inside wall of the colon, but has not spread to the outer wall of the colon or outside the colon. Sometimes called Dukes A colon cancer.Stage II: Cancer has spread outside the colon to nearby tissue, but it has not gone into the lymph nodes. Sometimes called Dukes B colon cancer.Stage III: Cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, but it has not spread to other parts of the body. Sometimes called Dukes C colon cancer.Stage IV: Cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver, bones, or lungs. Sometimes called Dukes D colon cancer.

Port surgery

Yesterday we spent most of the day at the hospital. G had a port installed for chemo.
He's doing OK. He needed an extra pillow. I have to work today & tomorrow.
He will call my parents if he needs anything.

The whether here has been gorgeous. I need to get the Christmas decorations down tonight.
It's going to be 77º today then it will turn cold.
I love to decorate for Christmas but decided to do just one 6' tree this year instead of 2.

Good day

Hubby is having a good day. This morning he actually cooked himself breakfast.
I forget he can cook. He doesn't like to cook.

Yesterday he told me he was glad we found the cancer in time it was stage 3. He also told me he can touch parts of his stomach & it doesn't hurt. I'm glad he's healing well.

First sentence/pancake love

Hubby helped Colin with his homework last night. Colin wrote his first sentence as homework. It was about what he likes to eat for breakfast. I guess we will have to scrapbook (sb) that homework assignments.

Colin just tasted pancakes for the first time this year. It was when C & I went with mom to the Dr for her follow up (neck tumor) visit. We went to breakfast while mom had some test run.
I begged him to taste my pancakes, he did & liked them.

I made some pancakes this weekend with oat flour, rice flour, golden ground flax seed & other ingredients. He loved them. He has asked me to make them everyday. Of course I haven't.
I did make them Monday. I made up some extra mix so all I have to do is add the wet ingredients. He wants them all the time, breakfast, lunch & dinner.

staple free/more surgery

I had a meeting at work this morning, it was training I really couldn't miss.
Mom took DH to the DR to remove the staples. Dad stayed w/ my sick nephew.
He has surgery to insert the port for chemo Nov 19.

Thank you all in advance for your positive thoughts, well wishes & prayers.
It means so much to us.

homework

I expected my son to read in kindergarten but I didn't think he would learn to add, subtract & now fractions.
The first day of school he had spelling words & I raised my eyebrows.
The fact is he can do the work. It amazes me how fast he can do it with the
right motivation. He wants to get on the computer so he just whizzed through
4 pages of homework. I remember the first month of school thinking I was going to pull my hair out. We would spend over an hour on homework.

staples out tomorrow

DH forgot to call the Doctor Friday to get his staples out. "How did you forget? What are you doing all day?" I know I shouldn't have asked but it boggled my mind.
He called this morning, the Dr is not in. He has an appt tomorrow morning to get the staples out after being in him for 2 weeks. OUCH! He has no idea.
I think I'll recommend he takes one of his pain pills.
He was in pain on & off during the weekend.

baby teeth

Early last week when I picked C up from school; he greeted me with the news of his loose tooth. He walked up & sd look mommy as he wiggling it.
It came out last night. We put it under the pillow & this morning he had a dollar from tooth fairy. I hope he didn't notice that the tooth fairy forgot & had to send him to get something; then like magic the money was under the pillow.

Well a few minutes ago he brings me the adjacent baby tooth. I didn't know it was loose. I asked him was it loose too & he sd no. Of course he was trying to pry something lose with his teeth when it came out. I told him I sure hopes he doesn't loose anymore teeth soon.

I know I shouldn't be majorly alarmed because he was very slow teething as a baby. He got his first teeth & walked at 9 months old. His teeth came in 2 at a time & didn't stop until he had them all. I guess it makes sense that he lose them 2 at a time.

Friday, November 9, 2007

It's Friday

Whoo hoo. I have meetings 1/2 the day. I sure hope they are productive. Nothing worst than sitting around wasting time.
Hubby is healing slowly. He had a little pain yesterday. I think he tried to do too much. He walks laps around the home & walks to the mailbox 3 times a day. The is a slight incline from the mailbox.
He was in bed when I got home. Hmmm a pretty good sign he was tired. Normally he's in the recliner.
Monday he gets his staples removed. Colin calls them staplers. He asked "Mommy why does daddy have staplers?" He's so cute. :)

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Come on weekend

We had another angel bring dinner last night. Yeah thank you JM!
G enjoyed dinner. I cooked last night so he would have a good lunch today.
I think he's a little tired of soup.
He's on his own today. I'm working all day.

Come on weekend. I'm stressed my eczema is giving me fits. I love fall but my allergies don't love fall. C is having a hard time too. Poor baby the one thing I didn't want him to inherit from me.

Hubby is getting stir crazy. I took him to the store last night so he could play his lotto. :) I think it's a total waste of time & money until he hits big then I'll be a fan of the lotto. Hmmm wonder how many children we have put through school w/ hubby's donations. :) He could have a worst hobby like scrapbooking. LOL

I wonder who's hobby is more expensive. Well, I really don't wonder. I know how expensive scrapbooking is, that is why I shop the sales.

Hey our future generations will enjoy the books that are passed along! That's my story & I'm sticking to it. I would love to know more about my grandparents lives when they were younger.

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

pain

G hadn't taken his pain pills in a day or 2. Yesterday he had a little pain. It's hard once he let the medication get totally out of his system. He is much better this morning.

We have had some angels help us. Mom made a special dinner for DH Monday. My sister K gave us many cans of organic soup. We had some ladies D&V bring us dinner last night. It is so touching & very helpful. Thank you all so much.

I made his favorite breakfast this morning. This is my last day this week working 1/2 day.

Easy to care

My DH is making it so easy to care for him. He doesn't ask for much. He insist he's fine.
I'm grateful he's such a good patient.

Monday, November 5, 2007

Thanks

I wanted to say Thank you for the great comments, words of encouragement & prayers.
We really appreciate you all.
This journey has not been easy but encouragement helps.
Thank you!!

He's home

We brought DH home yesterday. We got almost home when he remembered something
at the hospital. I took him home & headed back out to the hospital.
I went & bought new pillows so he would have plenty. I returned home to find he needed a
prescription filled. Well, it was Sunday & our normal pharmacy closes early.
I went to a 24 hr pharmacy & they told me it would be 45 min. I come back & have a nightmare
experience. Long story short it took 2 hours to get the prescription.
It was 8 p.m. I was tired & hungry. I could feel a headache coming on because my blood sugar
was too low. I had lunch at 11 a.m.
Thank goodness the night went a little smoother. Not much but a little.
I'm working 1/2 days for the next few days.
I just checked on him; he's fine.

May I take your order

I've called G a few times today. The last 2 times I've called he's answered the phone funny.
One time he sd Captain D's, May I take your order. The next time I called he sd McDonald's, May I take your order. I'm glad he still has his sense of humor.

Colin

Many friends have asked how our DS is handling all of this situation.
I took him to the hospital Tuesday. He was kind of standoffish.
He would look over at G then he would look away. He did this a few
times. He did go over & give him a hug & kiss.
He had a bad dream that night. He normally laughs in his sleep so I
think he was disturbed seeing his daddy w/ all of the tubes.

My sister K took him trick or treating w/ them & then brought him to
the hospital Wednesday evening. He was less standoffish.

Last night he asked was daddy still sick & when will he come home.
He didn't want to go to the hospital.

Good spirits

Hubby ate solid food yesterday. Yeah!! Of course he sent back every tray & they had to bring
him something different. He is one of the pickiest eaters I know; the other picky eater
is his son!
I have put both of them on notice that our food at home will change. We will eat less empty calorie/empty nutritional value crap.
He did great with his walking around the nurses station yesterday. He was moving so much faster. Nothing like encouragement from the Dr the more he walks the sooner he will get out of the hospital.
We got a little more information from the oncologist. They want G to heal for a month then they will begin chemo. The chemo will be once or twice a week for 6 months.
Our spirits good.

Not so good news

Well G will have to do 6 months of chemotherapy. His lymph node tested positive for cancer.
It's a little discouraging. He improves every day.

G update

We arrived at the hospital at 11 am. We were due to arrive at 11:30 a. m. We were informed they were behind schedule. They were supposed to take him back at 1:30 but he didn't go back until 3 pm. The surgery didn't begin until 4:15. The Dr came to visit us at 6:20. He sd G did well. They took 12" of his colon & stitched it back together. There was very little blood & they got all of the cancer.

He was in recovery for 2 more hours. My mom kept me company during the surgery & recovery. Thank mom. She also brought me food.
I spent the night w/ G & he was in a lot of pain. His pain didn't improve until 4 a.m.

Yesterday he sat up & walked around twice. He was tired most of the day & napped.
He had liquids to eat which was a mistake made by the Nurse tech.
He was only supposed to have ice chips.

10,20,30

Blog challenge where were you 10,20,30 yrs ago.
10 yrs ago I was 35 & going though dating hell. I was dating losers because my biological clock was ticking loudly, & I was trying to find that man. Thank goodness I decided I would be happy being single. I made a list of all the perks of being single & started to enjoy life.
20 yrs ago I was 25. I had no idea how naturally beautiful I was at that time. I was so consumed with everything being just so & how I looked I would not leave the house without makeup. I had 3 closets for all of my clothes, shoes, purses, & etc... I was entirely too materialistic & sad to say superficial. Oh yeah I was in debt up to my eyeballs. If I had 3 wishes, 1 wish would be for my 25 yr old body back.
30 yrs ago I was 15 & in H.S. I was quiet, shy & insecure. I made good grades & loved fashion.
I would consume anything fashion related. I would set the curve on the test in my fashion related classes. At 15 I wanted to be a Fashion Designer. I would wear the latest fashion & people would turn around when I walked by; of course they would wear a similar outfit 2 months later. I did enjoy H.S. but seemed a little more mature than most of the teens my age. I guess I've always danced to the beat of my own drummer, which is perfectly fine with me.

California

I'm struggling to have a positive attitude today. I just want to complain.
The truth is I'm scared about what is going on with my DH.
I was driving to work this morning & reached in my purse for lip gloss.
I was not happy that my lip gloss wasn't in my purse. I cleaned it out
Sunday it was too heavy. Lip gloss is one of the items I didn't put back
in my purse. Just as I wanted to get annoyed for not having my lip gloss.
I thought about the people in California that lost everything. They only
have the clothes on their back.

My coworker knows someone that lives in Cali. They were away on a trip.
When the returned to town they were not allowed to go to their home.
Fortunately these people do have some things because they just traveled.

It's amazing how spoiled we become. In this life what is really important.
When we are in a crisis situation we hate our home burned but are glad we are
alive. A home can be replaced a life can not.

I DVR Dr Phil & Oprah daily. Yesterday I watched the Oprah episode with people
having a terminal illness. I watched the Dr Phil show dedicated to Tuesdays w/ Morrie.
I learned sometimes we all get caught up in working too much so we can have a bigger home,
fancier car, bigger stone on our finger....
All of it is stuff. Stuff is not more important than people.

What are you doing with your life? Are you a positive influence to others?
Do you make the world a better place?

We all won't win the Nobel Peace Prize; but anyone & everyone is capable of brightening
someones day.

I'm going to brighten a strangers day today.

Christmas wish list

I started my Christmas wish list last month. So many family & friends ask what my son would like; it makes it easier to remember if I have a list.

I have a section for DS, DH & me. I just added Grungeboard http://www.timholtz.com/ to my list. I want the blank kind I can die cut myself.

Queen for a day

I'm participating in a circle journal for a scrappers group. The book I just finished theme is Queen for a Day.

I won't upload the LO until all of the journals are back to the owner but I will include some of
my journaling.

My day would include scrapbooking most of the day. I'd like it followed with a hot stone massage. I want hubby to get a babysitter & some one to deep clean our home so he can
take me on a date.

Friday

Well getting the news that my husband has colon cancer is a hard pill to swallow.
I know so many people with health issues this year. I've been personally trying
to be a little healthier this year. I've been eating better & exercising.
I've bought better groceries & cooked healthier meals.
I will keep trying to help my family become healthier.
I wish I had the time to grow my own organic vegetables. I have no interest in raising
my own livestock like my grandparents.
My DH has the best attitude he is very positive & upbeat. This is my happy moment of the day.

I luv fall

I love the cooler weather & change in season. I love it despite the fact that it disrupts my life with extra allergy issues. My precious DS has allergies too. We had an episode with his asthma last night. So I'm tired & sleepy this morning.
I look forward to the day we are cured of allergies or have at least got them under better control.

Happy moment of today my little precious is still smiling.

wellness exam

My co has another company come & conduct on site wellness exams. They sent a really
nosey questionnaire to our home. I filled it out & brought it in for my
exam this morning. My results are pretty good. My weight is the lowest its
been in over 5 yrs so maybe I broke my plateau & am on my way to becoming
healthier.

Some of my coworkers are not happy with the on site wellness. I think it's good.
Hubby & I don't have to drive to the Dr & I don't have to pay 2 co-pays.
Hubby has to come to my job but it will be good to see him.

The good results are keeping me motivated to stay on my fitness routine.
I may even kick up my exercising.

Whoo hoo my happy moment of today.

happy moment of today

My happy moment Sunday was to have lunch with my family.
My happy moment of today was when I heard little precious laugh.
I looked in on him & he was sleeping. It brought a smile to my face
that his sleep was pleasant.

We had lunch today at Chili's. We saw my
other aunts album of vacation photos.
I need to work on my album soon.

lunch

I had lunch with some friends at Cheesecake Factory.
I tried a different one today. I tried Chocolate turtle it was great.

hour to myself

My cousin challenged us to have 1 hour with no spouse, children, friends...
I'm enjoying my hour watching Oprah interview the author of eat, pray, love.
I hope I get to read it soon.
I've always done a gratitude journal but I want to imitate the author & do
a happy moment journal. I think I will include my happy moment on my blog.
My happy moment is getting the hour to myself today.

My little precious on deck 12 in his Spider mon shirt from Jamaica.

I had a fabulous time in Montego Bay. DS got a little hot & fussy.

Some of my family didn't like the people harassing you to buy their

products or come see their shop. They didn't bother me. I admired

their tenacity for trying to make their own living & not looking for a handout.

yesterday

Yesterday was my first day back at work. Oh, I didn't want to go back to work!
First of all, I forgot to set my alarm so I overslept. I usually get to work
at 6am yesterday if was almost 7:30. Gone are the days of me naturally waking up at 5 am.
After I dropped my son off, I passed my entrance to the on ramp to the expressway.
I think my body & mind did not want to go back to work.
I only have 100+ emails at work. I spent most of the day trying to catch up.
I have the employee opinion survey. I was pretty nice since I had just returned from
paradise & find it difficult to gripe about anything.

I'm still doing well with my exercise. I can't believe it. I must kick it up a notch.
I gained on vacation with all of that fabulous food. Even my son gained a little weight. LOL

blogging from Hell Grand Cayman Island

One of the stores here in Grand Cayman Islands offer 5 min phone call & 15 min of internet time to it's customers.
I've just bought a cute tote bag, thimbles, toe rings & ornaments.
Hubby & I are tired & ready to rest. DS wanted to spend the day in camp carnival so we left him on the boat.

I'm on vacation

photo id

We got a photo ID for our little precious. We vacation soon & may need it.
I picked him up from school & headed to the closest DL & ID place next to the tag agency. The DMV had moved so we had to drive to the new location. We barely made it in the door before closing then we headed back to the tag agency. We made it in their door 1 min before closing. They were nice because
other locations would have said sorry come back tomorrow.

At the DMV they took all of our important paper, took his photo, & finger prints. At the tag agency they took the DMV paperwork, took his photo & finger prints. As a result they gave us the cutest little ID card you've ever seen.
Of course I'm biased, I'm his mom.

My little precious is not easy to photograph. He's a busy boy there is stuff to explore & he doesn't like to hold still for long.
The first place he looked away & the guy had to take the photo again.
At the second place another worker walked up & said something; this
caused my son to look at him. The lady taking the photo told the guy
jokingly to go away. She tried to photograph DS again & he had a hard
time looking directly in the camera. She said I'll give you some candy
if you look right here & small nice. He quickly sat up tall, widened his
eyes & said cheese. The photo turned out so cute. The lady & I laughed
at how quickly he obeyed when he would get candy.

A few days ago DS was saying mommy can you speed up. I said Do you
have a drivers licence if not let me drive. I took his ID card to put in
our lock box he said I want to put my drivers license in my wallet.

tagged

I went to a blog to see photos from a fellow scrapper. Well of course I kept reading her blog & she tagged everyone that read the entry. Hmmm not fair. Anyway I will play.
test: do you have a life?

I'm not sure what this test reveal because about 1/2 of these I saw at home & not in the theatre.
I also fell asleep on some of them. I'm too lazy to go through the list & say I like it; hated it; loved it or blah blah blah. I also clean & watch TV so in reality this list does not reveal very much useful information. It was fun to do the challenge.

I cut & pasted from her blog.
There are 238 films in this list (don't know why they didn't make it an even 240!), and apparently, if you've seen over 85 of these, it means you have no life. Here goes:

gymnastics

Some family members have been really dogging me because I will not
let DS play football this year. He's only 5 & I don't think it will hurt to wait a few
years before some boy is trying to tackle my baby.

We have homework 3 nights a week. I try to get him in bed at 8 p.m. Football
3 days a week is just too much for the schedule this year.
Don't forget DH is working so I'm in charge of dinner, homework, packing lunch
& making sure there is a clean uniform for the next school day.

I did take him to gymnastics yesterday just to check it out. It's obvious that he
has natural gymnastic abilities. He loved it & did pretty well for his first time.
I think the instructor was impressed with his handstands & cartwheels.
She commented that he was so strong.
My sister said he will soon do aerials off the sofa. I'm sure he will.
After they have their turn they are supposed to walk around the mats
& get back in line. After the cartwheels he turned cartwheels to his
spot in line the rest of the night.
He's very young for the class; they are supposed to be 7 but hopefully
they will let him stay. If not we will practice at home.

I had a fabulous day at the CKC. I bought lots of goodies. I loved my class by quick quotes & bought a lot at their booth.
I bought so much at CH I had to make 2 trips to the car.
I met Marilyn & friends for lunch. It was a wonderful day. I ran out of steam & money. LOL
Their were less booths this yr & it seems like less people. I know they added a new CKC in Kansas & many of those women
drove to Tulsa. They also had to push it back a few weeks & school has started. They had to push it back because of the PGA
in Tulsa.
I didn't crop that night which was best. I was running on so little sleep I would have made some scary pages.
We had a family dinner Thursday night because my cousin & her family was in town.
It was good to see them; I'm glad they were able to visit.

hump day

I'm still going strong with the exercise consistency challenge.
Last night I cut floor moulding until it was dark.
I'm trying to finish the wall of the entertainment center. I'm ready to push it out
of the middle of my floor.

We have AMVET coming for donations Friday & Salvation Army coming Saturday.
I have a dining room full of stuff to donate. I've been needing to call for weeks.
Oh it will feel good to give these items a new home.

This first week of school is such an adjustment. I'm so glad it's hump day. I'm tired.
I'm going to the CKC Friday & I'm so ready. I'm so overdue for a day for just me.
Well most of the day. I get to take a sb class & shop until 5.
Marilyn & I will meet up for lunch. We will discuss the mini retreat & hopefully
get to meet the lady that owns scrapad.

Back to school

I need to take a photo of my little guy.
He is officially a kindergartner. He also had homework the first day of school.
I can't believe he had 5 spelling words that he had to write 3 times each.

Almost finished

Whoo hoo! We've almost finished the floors. I emptied that huge armoire & took off every door, drawer & shelf that I could remove.
Confession I moved a trunk in front of the entertainment center & moved the TV & accessories myself. I forgot this is how I aggravated my back in the past. I'm so glad I'm getting stronger because that was a dumb move on my part.
I (alone) tried to put the entertainment center on those slider (furniture movers) & damaged one of the ball feet. The armoire tilted & hit the wall nothing major just a little indentation that I fixed.
Oh yeah I painted the wall & ran out of paint so it's very thin in the part that the entertainment center will cover. No 2 coat in that spot.
I hate I don't have left over paint for touch ups. A big no no for a mom of a 5 yr old boy.

I finally used my table saw that I bought months ago. I must admit that saw intimidated me. I read the manual first that repeats over & over about safety or you will loose a finger or thumb. Well it scare the poo out of me. The visions of trying to cut all of those boards lengthwise with the circular saw, like in C's room was enough to overcome my fear. The circular saw would bog down, it just wasn't the
right tool for the job.
Well my new table saw worked like a charm. It was scary; that saw is a bad mama jamma. Just the blade peeks up & turns so fast.
It has enough rpms to not get my fingers too close. It cut so smooth but I had to keep it going straight & it wasn't easy.
I love the results.

DH walked through after we finished the last row & said I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm glad we did it, it really looks good.
This is the same guy who muttered I should have left the carpet. I didn't hear him but my mom did the day my parents came to help.
I knew deep down DH felt like it was a waste of money, time & energy. Now, he feels differently. :)

I love the room with less furniture, most has been moved out to do the floors. I think I will eliminate one chair & donate it. I'm sure it
will find a good home. We really don't need a sofa, love seat & 3 chairs. I'll make a cushion for the fireplace to match the new curtains & it will provide extra seating when needed.

Sunday, August 19, 2007

phew

I'm still doing well with my exercise routine. I haven't missed a day until I started.
We moved the entertainment center. I pulled up the rest of the carpet & pad.
I need to paint the wall behind the entertainment center. Beat up/pull up the carpet
tack. I don't think we will finish this weekend. I want to paint before I finish the floor.

Aug 13

I did 1 row on Sunday all by myself. When DH rose he helped me do 8 more rows.
I had precut all the rows Saturday. It looks beautiful.
I took photos of the progress. Hmmm when will I shrink & upload them.
Now we just have to move the entertainment center. It took 3 people to move it in the house.
I hope G & I can budge it; the last time we tried we could not.
I took the doors off & the drawers out. I'll take out everything else today.
We plan to put the floor slider mover things under it. I also want to paint this wall.
I didn't paint this wall a few months ago when I painted the rest of the room.
We trying to figure out how to take everything out with out messing up the wiring.
I don't think we would ever get it hooked up right without calling the cable co.

Still on target with my exercise. It's still not a habit or easy.

Our dryer stopped working yesterday. I was so tempted to put the clothes outside in 104º
they would be dry in no time. I took them to my sisters she lives the closest to us.

help from mom & dad

My parents are awesome. They came over to help us with the floors. We had problems in the same spot. We finally just moved on. Then we rocked & rolled. It was hard work. DH came in
just as we started to flow & it went much faster. It really takes 4 people to put the row to the previous row.
I was ready for a break & daddy said lets do one more row. Mom sd
yep because I may not come back. So we did 2 more rows.
We worked up to the fireplace. The fireplace corners are rounded so I need to make a template & cut the curves very precise.

After they left I sat down in the shower I was so tired. I could barely walk later
because my muscles hurt. I used muscles that had not been used in a while.
I called mom this morning & told her I was sore & asked if they
were sore she sd no I'm fine.My mom is better shape than I am!!!
So after the floors I'm stepping up my exercise. LOL

I'm still sore this morning. I know the yoga ball is helping because I was able to work a lot with out it hurting. In the past after an hour of all that bending & stooping my back would have been
hurting to bad for me to continue.

Oh the floors are so worth it. I think we have about 6 rows done & it looks great.
I'm glad I decided against the dark wood because the kitchen bar touches
the floors & it matches perfectly. I really need to take some photos.

G is still stick & his energy level is low.
He did say on about the 4th row that if we build again that he wants me
to have the floors put in then. Mom told him it's cheaper to do it the
way we've done it because it won't be figured into the mortgage & paid on
for yrs.

floors

The floors are giving me the blues. I need to take a photo & upload it.
We worked on the floors last night & a few boards would not cooperate.
I tried hammering them in place until I was sweating.
The last problem board was a major headache.
It had about 1/8 gap & DH asked would it be ok to leave the gap.
I sd no, this is too much work & money for it not to be done correctly.
It also was in a very high traffic area.

DH finally got the last problem board to go in to be seamless.
We only did 2 rows last night. Now that it's over these floors are going to
look great.
Anything looks great at this point because we've been walking on concrete
for weeks since we took out the carpet. LOL

I'm doing well with my exercise program. Working on the floors has me
exercising more than I prefer, but hopefully it will pay off.

One month until vacation & I have not lost the 20lbs. Darn well there
won't be many swimsuit photo of me other than the neck up. :)

It's Friday

It's Friday & I get to train outside for 4 hours & the temperature will be in the 90's. Who's bright idea was this! Others will be out training next week & it will be in the 100's. NICE!

I did manage to exercise last night. I really hope I start to remember to do it earlier in the day.
This waiting to late at night is really hard. 3 nights in a row I almost sd forget it but I didn't.

I plan to work on our floors this weekend. It's tax free shopping this weekend. Well I shopped last weekend. I don't know if fighting the crowds will be worth that little savings.

Thursday, August 2, 2007

It's almost Friday

I have not taken my vitamins all week until today. I can tell a big difference in my energy level.
Last night I was ready for bed at 9 p.m. Then I remembered I had only exercised a little.
So I drug my tired self out of bed & exercised. It was so hard.
I hope I have more energy tonight. I looked at a few yoga ball exercises online, I'm going to try them tonight.

I'm looking forward to the CKC Aug 24. I plan to take a class about bo

Mom she sd he had a Popsicle but now want cookies. So he came
to her & said the Popsicle was so nasty can I have cookies. She said did you eat
all of the Popsicle, he sd yes. She sd you can't have the cookies. UGH
He'd eat sugar all day if we allowed it.

Aug 1

I can't believe it's Aug. I can't wait until September for my much needed vacation.
I'm putting x's on my calendar. I've done well & did exercise last night.
I'm not sure why because I gained .6 lbs this week. UGH!!!

DS loves the small yoga ball. He was bouncing really high & lost his balance. It was funny.
I had visions of him & the ball rolling around like a cartoon. I started laughing & he asked
me what was funny.

Bought a bigger yoga ball

It is much better for sitting at my desk. I gained weight yrs ago, when I went from outside sales to working inside.
I went from walking, climbing, driving, & carrying items to sitting at a desk with a computer all day.

My bigger yoga ball will help to strengthen my core. It's also handy to do exercises on my lunch hour. I just roll it to an empty area & exercise. These ball exercises are really tough but hopefully they will get easier for me.

I still haven't missed a day of exercise starting July 23, 2007.
There are 3 people in the challenge that haven't missed a day. A couple I'm not sure if they've missed because they haven't checked in.
I guess the competition is great for all involved because we will all have better health!

yoga ball

Bought a yoga ball to sit on at work. I bought the smaller size because I'm under 5'6" & that's what the pkg sd. Well it's too low to the ground. I'm having a hard time with my keyboard & my knees are pretty high. Hope no one has a camera. I'll go buy a bigger ball tonight & take this one home to DS. I plan to get one for home too. If I give DS his own maybe I can use mine in peace.

I just finished my workout with the ball it was hard. I can feel my core getting stronger.
1 full week of exercising everyday.

Will the day ever come?

6/6 loved dancing round with DS today. Whoo hoo 6 days in a row.
We are not doing much today. A lazy day, my favorite kind of day.
I'm making a few files on the computer. Always working toward
making my business my full time job.

I'm a little bummed that my craft room is being packed.
I'm feeling very creative & really want to scrap.
Oh I can't wait for the day it's finished, cleaned, organized,
& I have time to play. Oh will the day ever come.

My friend Katie has been a great inspiration. She bit the
bullet & is doing well. Take a look at her blog. Her link is
one of my favorite places to visit.

Still exercising

Oh it was hard. We traveled almost 2 hrs to a party & almost 2 hrs home.
I meant to get in the jupiter jump to get my exercise at the party but never
go around to it. I did crunches at 10:30 p.m. but I did them.
We all had a great time at the party especially DS. I'm not sure I will have
any photos to scrap because I didn't take my camera & my DS wouldn't
smile in the photos.

I can't wait

Challenge #4Do a blog entry that's only photos NO WORDS or TEXT of any kind except for the title (no cheating don't make that title 200 words). You could just post a few photos you've taken recently and not shared, or you might like to post a whole bunch of random photos from you lastest adventure and let us guess what you are doing or where you are. Or perhaps you want to make one of those mosaics I've seen on blogs recently. Have fun with this one!

4/4 consecutive days

4 consecutive days exercising. It was tough last night. I think it's best if I don't wait late in the evening. Especially as the week goes on I get tired earlier each day. By Friday nights I'm toast from waking before 5 a.m. all week long.
Today G & I switched vehicles. I will go get the floors after work today. It's been a little while since I've driven a standard. I thought I was in first gear & I was in 2nd gear. I shifted to what I thought was 2nd gear but it was really first gear. The truck jerk & C sd "Wow mommy that was cool." I thought hope I didn't mess up anything on this truck. Then C sd "Do it again mommy." Of course I did not do it again. Good thing DH doesn't read my blog. LOL

Tool caddy by Mimi

My friend Mimi made the fabulous tool caddy for my crap (craft) room. She's so talented & I'm really grateful.

I can't wait to finish redecorating my room. I have the perfect place for my new caddy. It will match my decor perfectly.

I love it! Thank you Mimi!

3/3 consecutive days of exercise

I'm 3 for 3 on consecutive days of exercise.
Oh it was so hard last night. I was winding down before bed by laying across my bed
watching criminal minds TV show. I thought Oh I haven't exercised today. I didn't want to
get up & exercise, but I did, I'm very proud of myself. I did a combination of push ups,
jumping jacks (low impact) & jumping on the mini trampoline. I had a little helper
with the push ups & he did more full body push ups than I could do; I switched to the girl
push ups. He also out jumped me on the mini trampoline, despite my saying I wanted to
jump alone.

Family Fun

My cousin is visiting so my mom had a fabulous dinner. Dinner was great & I love food. I did eat my favorite sweet potato casserole & it was yummy. Mom is a fabulous cook. It was good to visit with family & meet my cousin's husband's nieces.
My plan was to host July 4 but my floors are not finished. I've been fighting a cold & just don't feel like hosting.
